EAA Joins Chorus for GA Safety Pause

Safety Program Building Up A Groundswell of Pilot Awareness and Proficiency

The Experimental Aviation Association has thrown in their lot along with the NBAA, VAI, and more to promote the 2025 National Pause for General Aviation Safety.

The roster has grown to more than a dozen distinct mission-oriented aviation organizations, pushing their members to engage with at least 15 to 60 minutes of their time to “sharpen their focus on safe flight operations by reviewing at least one of more than three dozen carefully curated safety videos, articles, and more at GAsafe.org.” The EAA notes that things are still mostly safe, despite some high-visibility accidents in the public eye. Over the last 3 decades, the general aviation accident rate actually dropped by 60% from a high of 1.73 fatal accidents per 100,000 flight hours in 1994. In 2023, that was brought all the way down to 0.68, and the EAA says “early data suggests 2024 was even safer.”

Participants in the GA Safety Pause won’t leave empty handed, since they can earn FAA WINGS credit. The site also grants a ‘digital badge’ to post up on social media accounts to help prompt greater awareness of The Pause among the less-engaged pilot base. The EAA pointed that the initiative has been giving very broad support among just about everyone in the world of light aircraft operation, from the American Bonanza Society to Vertical Aviation International. The EAA did its part by contributing a number of its safety-related media projects to the joint initiative, putting them online at the GAsafe site. That could be an interesting peek behind the curtain for non-members mulling over an EAA membership for themselves, as a taste of the kind of content they can expect as a member in the future.

Those interested in taking part of the 2025 National Pause for General Aviation Safety can jump on to www.GAsafe.org. In terms of quick jobs, a 15-question GA safety quiz nets a WINGS credit, and it's all just a click away.
