Direct Fly Debuts Aircraft Upgrades at the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo

Czech aircraft manufacturer DirectFly made an appearance at the SUN ‘n FUN Innovation Preview to reveal updates to its 2025 Alto NG light sport aircraft. Changes to its engine options, standard braking system, avionics, paint schemes, and domestic parts availability make it an overall more well-rounded option for US customers.

The most significant change in the new year is the addition of two new engine options, the 100-horsepower Rotax 912 iS and the 120-horsepower Edge Performance EP915ECi, on top of the standard 100-horsepower Rotax 912 ULS. The EP915ECi is an extremely lightweight and compact powerplant that gives an impressive boost to climb performance without sacrificing too much fuel efficiency.

The 2025 Alto NG also transitioned from the previous brake system to a Beringer-based setup, simplifying the parking brake and streamlining the process of acquiring replacement parts.

Another major improvement is a new-and-improved instrument panel structure to leave room for much bigger displays, including dual 12-inch Dynon HDX1200 or Garmin G3X panels, with enough room for pretty much any radio stack in the center. Multiple of the Dynon-equipped versions have already been brought into the US.

Flight schools will appreciate DirectFly’s work to make parts and maintenance more accessible within the US this year. It has committed to keeping replacement parts, scheduled maintenance kits, and parts kits geared toward typical flight training needs stocked domestically as well as staying prepared for “unscheduled maintenance issues.”

These upgrades come only a couple of years after the Alto NG debuted, replacing the earlier Alto TG variant. It is available as a basic or quick kit designed for amateur builders in amateur spaces on top of a ready-to-fly aircraft option.

The manufacturer’s presentation was guided by Director of Sales Clayton Wheaton. DirectFly and its Alto NG will be hanging out at SUN ‘n FUN for the rest of the week at booth LP-062 in the Light Plane Mall.
