Guardian Avionics Cockpit System Detailed By Nighthawk Flight Systems

Modular Glass Cockpit To Enhance Situational Awareness And Reduce Pilot Workload

Kyle Williams, director of business development For Nighthawk Flight Systems, presented the company’s Guardian cockpit system at the Aero-News Innovation Preview at SUN ’n FUN 2026 in Lakeland, Fla.

Williams showed a video describing how the Guardian modular glass cockpit system is engineered to enhance situational awareness, reduce pilot workload and deliver modern avionics capabilities through scalable, intrusive architecture designed for fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

Unlike traditional, integrated avionics suites, Guardian is built as a scalable platform, allowing operators to figure out what they need today and then expand over time without having to replace an entire system. This protects your investment long-term.

For example, in an installation in a Cessna 340, the traditional six pack instrumentation is removed and replaced with Guardian’s system, powered by NEST modular architecture and mission-computing unit. Behind the panel the NEST modules integrate cleanly into the aircraft through a blade link that integrates all functions upon installation.

Smart input/output enables compatibility with both legacy and modern avionics systems supporting a broad range of inputs and outputs while simplifying wiring and installation.

The Guardian display connects to the system through a single, shielded interface cable carrying power, video, touch and bidirectional data. By consolidating connections into one secure pathway, wiring complexity is reduced and the need for unnecessary interconnect points is eliminated.

Guardian’s architecture supports certified GPS WAAS navigation, VHF communication, VOR and ILS navigation and transponder integration, delivering a complete avionics suite within a modular framework.

The system is engineered for expansion into Part 25 and Park 29 applications.

Guardian’s real-world synthetic vision is built upon a high-resolution digital twin of the earth. The databases contain all available appropriate digital data worldwide, such as navigation charts, obstacles, terrain, waterways, roads and more. Traditional synthetic-vision systems represent terrain using simplified graphical surfaces.

Controlled flight into terrain remains one of the leading causes of general aviation accidents. Guardian helps situational awareness in both visual and instrument conditions. Integrated safety features including terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS), TAWS for helicopters, TCAS, ADS-B in, and flight information system broadcast (FIS-B) weather provide layer protection and intelligent alerting.

The 11.6-inch primary display delivers full high-definition resolution, sunlight readability and multi-point touch control. Guardian is not a “rip-and-replace system” but a foundation meant to grow as the pilot needs.
