The Society of Aviation And Flight Instructors (SAFE) invites aviation educators to come see their events this year at Sun ‘n Fun and visit their booth at A-61-63.
“We have a ‘FREE Wings on Wednesday’ at the Prop 75 at noon (ALL CFIs and SAFE members are invited - free). We have a ‘CFI Roundtable on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Prop 75 (FREE ice cream sundaes for ALL CFIs and SAFE members).” Each year, SAFE participates in air shows across the country. Starting in the spring with Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland, Fla. through the summer and fall months at EAA AirVenture, in Oshkosh, Wisc.. Stop by their booth to discover ways in which SAFE supports aviation educators. SAFE provides a members-only Resource Center, with online courses and teaching aids.
"Aviation educators are the essential point of contact with pilots and No. 1 ‘Aviation Influencers’ creating safety,” said executive director David St. George. “Their skill and professionalism (or lack of it) determine the quality of all our future pilots. “Here are some immediate, actionable ideas on how to build your own professionalism and/or inspire CFIs you work with:
- Why do we still have an unacceptable 80% drop-out rate during initial pilot training?
- Why can’t a certificated pilot (easily) rent an airplane anywhere, like you rent a car?
- Why will some schools *not* rent to pilots they just trained and tested? Why do pilots pass the FAA test but insurance companies really are the ones who set the standards?
- How can we expect CFIs with less than a year of total experience (teaching and sometimes even flying) to be “professional educators?” How “masterful” is *your* CFI?
